Old Swan Hotel - Macdonald Hotels - Harrogate, United Kingdom 4 star hotel

Address: Swan Rd, Harrogate, HG1 2SR
Old Swan Hotel - Macdonald Hotels details:  Harrogate's most famous hotel, The Old Swan is the premier choice in the town. Classically presented bar & restaurants with 136 contemporary bedrooms and stylish bathrooms.

Originating from an 18th-Century coaching inn and rebuilt into Harrogate's grandest hotel in 1840, the Old Swan has undertaken a full refurbishment completed in February 2006. Set in 5 1/2 acres of gardens, the hotel is famous as the retreat of Agatha Christie during her disappearance in 1926 and then as the location for the film 'Agatha' starring Dustin Hoffman and Vanessa Redgrave in 1977.
All rooms booked on this site are fully refurbished and feature colour TV, trouser press, iron & ironing board, welcome refreshment tray and stylish ensuite bathroom. Please note all our bedrooms are non-smoking. We have a variety of rooms to offer from our Classic Rooms to our larger Executive rooms as well as 10 individually designed suites - some with Four Poster beds and others featuring a freestanding bath big enough for two. Conference rooms can accommodate up to 400 people.

Clearly we forgot our rationing books. Not only were the baked beans counted (10 each), but soap and shower gel rationed. Energy saving wattage so low- we couldn't even read. 2 room 3 nights DBB for 3 people cost well over 1,000 pounds. We travel all over Europe - worst service- worst food- worst value for money we ahve ever had.

BEWARE THIEVES ABOUT!!! I recently spent a weekend at The Old Swan Hotel along with friends. Upon attending breakfast, we locked our hotel room locked, keeping the key in our possession. We returned to our room within 45 minutes, the door was still locked, however, house keeping had attended and cleaned the room. We immediately found that ?150 had been stolen from a purse along with two pairs of designer sunglasses and medication. The hotel management were immediately contacted along with the police. We were assured by management that prompt action had been taken and the appropriate staff had immediately been searched however the property was never recovered. We were provided with coffee whist we waited for the police to attend, however I was shocked to find that we had been billed for it at the end of our stay until we refused to pay. I felt the staff were quite indifferent to this theft and formed a strong opinion that it was not an unusual occurrence. We never received an apology for the theft and the upset it caused, nor were we offered any incentives for a return stay. DO NOT LEAVE ANY VALUABLES IN THE ROOM AT ANY TIME
