We stayed at the Holiday Inn for one night. We didn't find the building exterior off putting and really liked the surrounding lawn and trees. Parking was easy. Our room (double with sofa bed) was clean and comfortable. The bathroom was fine; clean and everything worked. We found the room spacious enough to stay in for the evening using room service, and didn't feel hemmed in at all.
The staff were friendly and helpful. I'd hurt my foot and was limping along with a stick. Staff offered to assist with luggage at check in, and with getting breakfast from the self service counters. Food (we just had room service baguettes and breakfast) was nothing spectacular, but perfectly OK.
All in all, we were very happy with this experience. Excellent value for money (?62 B&B, booked in advance via the hotel's web site) and we would go back.

Lovely weekend spent at this hotel, Staff were so friendly and nothering too much trouble. Breakfast really good selection and hot, being filled up all the time. Had a lovely meal in the restaurant on the Friday night. Compliments to the chef it was wonderful (seafood spaghetti). Sat and watched the rabbits on the lawn in the beautiful garden, chasing one another around.
Don't use your car to go into York, the bus service is the best every. Every 10 mins with a day ticket ?3.50 you can use to jump on and off all buses for the whole day.
All in all a great weekend.
