The Alex Lodge - Yeovil, United Kingdom     

The Alex Lodge is fairly basic but totally adequate for the price, and the staff are extremely pleasant and helpful. The rooms are clean, comfortable, warm and well-lit and depending which one you book, can be quite spacious. The showers are great. Little things like the remote control and kettle not working were annoying but fairly typical for the sort of accommodation and price (?35 per room per night). There is no hotel parking, but the hotel instructs you to park in the neighbouring leisure centre's car park and they will reimburse the cost. (Although you can only book 5 hours at a time so you have to be able to go back to the car park every five hours and buy another ticket.) However, a major warning - half the rooms are directly above the bar, and on Saturday night the music was unbearably loud in our room, to the point where the furniture was vibrating along with the bass (and this is two floors above the bar). It gets turned down before midnight so if you're planning to be out for most of the night it's probably not an issue, but otherwise there is no way anybody could sleep through the noise. The hotel kindly agreed to move us to another room in the other half of the hotel for our second night, where you could still hear the music but it was not impossible to ignore.
