Best Western Wynnstay Hotel address: Church St, Oswestry, SY11 2SZ
Best Western Wynnstay Hotel details: The Wynnstay Hotel was a well known coaching inn for both the route from Liverpool to Cardiff and from London to Holyhead. There are references dating back to 1727, but the existing building is typical of the Georgian style, and there have been many alterations and additions over the years.
The hotel has been privately owned for the past 20 years and was sympathetically renovated over the past 2 years extending the function suite to 200 people capacity, and converting the old stable block at the rear of the hotel into a luxurious fitness club with an indoor pool, sauna, jet spa, steam room and 3 purpose build treatment rooms.

Location
Oswestry is an ancient market town located in the North of Shropshire close to the English-Welsh border. Its strategic position as a 'frontier town' has given it a turbulent history. Today the town still retains its vital function as a market and shopping centre serving North West Shropshire and mid Wales. The names of the narrow passageways link streets conjure up images of the past: English Walls, Welsh Walls, The Bailey and the Horsemarket. It is a locally important shopping and agricultural centre and still retains the intimacy of a rural town serving local people and home to a number of specialist and independent shops. Most of the town centre has been designated a conservation area conveying a mixture of architectural styles. There are many old timber framed houses, for example Llywd Mansion on Cross Street, the Heritage Centre, the Blackgate, the Fox Inn and the shops along Beatrice Street. Georgian architecture is also represented particularly around St Oswald's Church, where there are a number of imposing town houses complete with grand entrance staircases and front doors.

We stayed at the Wynnstay for one night only, though one of our managers stays there every month for a night and loves it!
There is a very homely and cared for atmosphere as soon as you enter the hotel. It's particularly pleasing arriving from the car park at the back of the hotel, as you pass by the spa [renovated coach house] and the bowling green. A real touch of olde England and very atmospheric!
Staff are really pleasant, helpful and efficient. The rooms are a bit small [it's a very old building], but spotless and with plenty of fluffy towels, pillows etc. The bathroom is old-fashioned, but quite adequate. If staying longer I would book one of the suites - a peek in and I was really impressed as it was really spacious and charming.
We had a front room overlooking the main street, but with double glazing had no problem with any noise.
Breakfast was freshly cooked and very good. Staff again were really helpful without being intrusive.
Oswestry is a charming old town, with a lot of indivdually owned shops full of interesting stock. It is a market town and apparently they hold an excellent food market in July.

Stayed at the Wynnstay on a number of occasions for business purposes. The hotel is located right in the centre of Oswestry which is useful for shops/town centre amenities etc.
Always found the staff to be helpful and polite, nice bar area and the gym & bowling green are excellent additional facilities that you may not expect.
Most of the rooms are OK, nothing spectacular but OK, like most hotels there are good and bad rooms, some could do with a lick of paint etc but certainly nothing too bad.
