Two Bridges Hotel - Two Bridges, United Kingdom
Two Bridges Hotel details:
Nestling beside the West Dart River, in 60 acres of private grounds at the very heart of the Dartmoor National Park, the hotel is reminiscent of a bygone age of opulence with the added extravagance of today's little luxuries.
Built in 1794 as a coaching inn at the opening of the trans-moor turnpike, the property was originally called 'The Saracen's Head'. It only gained its present name in the early 1900s when the modern road was completed.
The comfortable lounges, with log fires and leather armchairs, are the ideal place to relax after a day on the moor.
The hotel has acquired a deserved reputation for excellence in the conference and business meeting sector primarily because of the care we take in tailoring all arrangements to individual clients' requirements.
The stunning Fountain Room enjoys considerable natural daylight with 5 sets of patio doors opening onto private gardens with views of the moor beyond - a perfect combination of functionality and tranquility. With its innovative design, this is a fairly recent addition to the hotel and is ideal for weddings, private functions and conferences/meetings.
The main conference room can comfortably able to accommodate 150 delegates theatre style.
Syndicate facilities are available in the Music Room and Georgian Room.
The Georgian is a magnificent oak-panelled room with ornate hand painted plasterwork and is also perfect for private dinner parties.

Many years ago I used to stay at the Two Bridges when I wanted a relaxed country hotel so when I was passing through recently I stayed again partly for nostalgia. Sadly the hotel is now overpriced and has lost its old atmosphere. The staff fawned over a business party and were offhand to individuals. I was told that I could not have cream tea on the lawns as I used to do because "Our guests don't like to see the lawn full of tourists." The old, friendly bar has gone and walkers are made to feel that they should perhaps stay in the barn rather than bringing their wet clothes in through the door. The food was good but again I missed the old bar with its excellent quality food for walkers. My room was tatty and and from glimpses through other doors the rest of the rooms other than the few specials are in much the same condition. The whole place could do with redecorating and in some places fairly serious maintenance.

We have just come back from staying here for 1 night. We were given the Bridal suite room 39. The room was beautiful. Queen size 4 poster bed with sitting area, high beams and beautiful old photo's on the walls.
The bathroom was spotless and had a double jacuzzi that not only was big enough for the largest of people but had controls for flow , heat and air.
We took a wonder round the place and in every room was a roaring fire with sofas to laze on, with the walls covered with old pictures.
We did not have dinner as the menu is very distinctive serving frogs legs and rabbit.
There is minimal choice over 3 courses. However we did enjoy a varied breakfast of which there is plenty to choose from and served hot and freshly prepared.
I would highly recommend this hotel for a romantic night away.
