Royal Hotel - Thurso, United Kingdom 

I was staying in Thurso for work purposes so booked a double room for single occupancy. The room was really small, not sure two people would be comfortable in such a small room. The bathroom was very basic with a stand alone cheap plasitc shower cubicle, the on/off switch was on the outside of the shower which was a bit awkward. The curtains didn't quite cover the whole window which let a lot of light in at night. The staff are extremely helpful. Coming up to the room to help me lock the door (it was a tad confusing!) on my first night and welcoming me everytime I came in to pick up my key, asking how my day has gone. The hotel was full of tourists, mainly elderly who made the most of the "scottish entertainment" which consisted of an accordian player. The food was not nice. My pork and apple sauce with chef's selection of vegetables turned out to be 3 slices of pork with gravy, boiled potatoes and tinned carrots. I only had breakfast once (I don't normally eat breakfast) and had this delivered to my room. I was supposed to have a continental breakfast and for an extra ?5 had the cooked breakfast. I received the cooked breakfast but no continental!! All in all, wasn't the worst hotel I've stayed in but certainly not the best. If I stayed here again I would not be eating the food, even with a new chef.

We stayed 1 night & the room was clean double bed big bathroom strong shower & proper towels. Some noise from the main road. Only had breakfast. The best about the hotel is the friendly helpfull staff. Especially in reception but right through to the youngsters in the bar.
