The Corner House Hotel - Taunton, United Kingdom 

Having now stayed at The Corner House for a number of consecutive weeks due to being in Taunton on business, I can safely say that I have never experienced worse customer service in my life. For example, I had made several bookings under my name for my colleagues and I one week. On arrival, one of the room bookings had not been put onto the system and with no other available room we were stuck. The Manager seemed largely unconcerned and dismissive and offered little else, other than to ring another hotel in the area. Apparently, as there was no confirmation it couldn't possibly be the hotels fault. Strange that the rest of us had our rooms available. As far as the rooms go, they are too small and the bathrooms are really dirty. It is incredibly noisy at night and far too hot. There is no offer of a paper in the morning and the room service menu is limited to say the least. Also, to my disgust, on one occasion, we returned home from dinner to find all of the staff, including the Manager, congreated at the front door smoking - not a pleasant welcome. The basic level of customer sevice and cleanliness that you take for granted at other hotels at the bottom of the market was, where The Corner House was concerned, sadly lacking. Unfortunately, a lack of availability in the local area means we may have to go through this nightmare again.

Stayed here one night late April. Recommended due to proximity of the hotel to town centre. No problems on arrival. Check in quick and courteous. Room was large but very spartan and in need of renovation. Why a resident would have to go to reception for an anti slip mat for the bathroom is beyond me....I wouldn't have though they were high on any resident 'must steal' list. Obviously the cleaners struggle with the bathroom areas as you could have knitted a shetland jumper with the contents of the outlet fan. If you like an array of TV channels don't stay here. Didn't use the internet service as I was told it was a fiver an hour. I don't need it that badly! I didn't use the restaurant so can't comment on the food. Bar was okay but imagine would be a real squeeze in the summer as very small. All in all it was ok but I won't be stopping there again...
