I've stayed here manytimes in the last two years.......and for the last year I've seen it slide slowly into a terrible state. Food is ussually pretty good though. Rooms are tired looking, grubby, often dirty.....sheets are awful, feel like 100% nylon...certainly very little cotton content. Matresses range from rock solid to 'well used' and saggy in the middle. Bathrooms are always dirty, grouting is grubby and often tiles missing. It simply needs money spent on it, and being the only large hotel in the area, should and could be something special. Just seems IPA aren't prepared to spend any money on it. Current management, although new so can't be too hard on them, seem a little inexperienced and haven't really taken hold of the hotel yet. Best thing about the hotel is the lovely bar staff / waitress's, all very happy, positive and provide great customer service. Go for a meal or pint...but dont stay there! Highfield Country Guesthouse up the road is far superior.

I stayed here with my fiance for two nights as our friends were getting married in nearby Romsey. Thankfully we did not have to spend much time in the hotel. On arrival, we were directed to a room in the annex of the hotel, which was nothing like the rooms pictured on the website. Dust, dirt and cobwebs greeted us, along with a dripping tap in the bathroom, damp and a previous occupant's used towel. Nice touch... The sheets were stained and the room stank of damp. Breakfast was ok in comparison to the room and the service offered by the staff (grumpy and uncharming) but not as good as I would expect of a hotel charging £80 per night. We should and would have complained had the hotel not been block-booked by the bride and groom for their guests - we didn't want the happy couple to be stressed or worried about anything before or during their big day, so we kept quiet. Please don't waste your money by staying here.
