We stayed at Highfield House for one night prior to joining a cruise ship at Southampton docks. For the price of ?55 for a twin room including full English breakfast, one really can't complain. The hotel isn't the most modern, but the staff are friendly, the location good for the docks (although not in the greatest part of town), and the rooms clean and better than expected. Just be sure not to stay in the rooms above the adjoining bistro/bar - the hotel is near the University, and the bar has more than its share of students occupying it until late, who can be quite noisy. Overall, above average for the price, and fine for a short stay.

We only stayed one night and selected it based on TripAdvisor reviews. Part of the Folio Group, a very stylish and inexpensive hotel. Service was excellent, room comfortable, individual and well appointed. Breakfast was buffet style and included in the room price. Location was on the outskirts of Southampton but in a very good residential area. We would definitely stay in this hotel again or any other in the group.
