The Banister House has all that you'd expect of a British B&B/guesthouse. I've stayed there for a couple of nights and was very happy with the choice. The hotel is a modest and utilitarian one, rather a small one, but had everything that I needed. Very good value for the price. The hotel is conveniently located between the town centre and the university campus, both in a walking distance, in a quiet hood off the main street (the Avenue). It has an off road parking lot and is convenient for public transport. Restaurants, takeaways and food stores within 5 minutes. Clean room, good breakfast, friendly and helpful landlords, soundproof windows, free wifi, daily replenished tea tray, good heating, small desk, comfortable bed and pillows, shower cubicle in the middle of your bedroom. What more would you need ? The rooms are indeed small, if that matters. During my stay I've seen other guests move over to Banister from other more expensive hotels in the town. On the downside, the hot/cold water pressure was not very stable, which was a bit awkward when in the shower of course. All in all, I would stay again.

Was in Southampton for two days on business and was booked into the Banister. On arrival (early evening), found the hotel was fully occupied so was happy that had been pre-booked. Car park, although fairly large with space for about 8 vehicles and two additional 'disabled' spaces was almost full. Was met at the door by by Alain who was very welcoming and hospitable - thorughout my stay, he was always available, polite and approachable - assisting with any queries. Was booked into a single room, which as others have mentioned had the sink and shower unit at the foot of the bed with the toilet in it's own separate en-suite room. It was different, but as was travelling solo and was a single room, was not a problem. The furniture was fine; large wardrobe and a desk beside, with the TV on a shelf. Tea/coffee facilities supplied. Bedding was very comfortable and even with the window open was very warm. The location was good also, very close to the main business areas and transport links but far enough away in the residential area that it was quiet. Overall, for the price paid, the hotel was excellent and when I am next working in the area will be in contact to stay again.
