Royal Hotel - Scunthorpe, United Kingdom 

I stayed here last week, on a business trip to the steelworks on the edge of town. If you've not seen anything similar before elsewhere, the Scunthorpe steel plant is quite an amazing sight; - the area of the site is actually larger than the rest of the town! It's really huge; despite years of closures and cut-backs! They still start with raw iron ore and make everything else from it, all on one gigantic industrial site. There's no organised way to make a visit, but there's little or no organised security guards to stop you looking around - if you want to - it's a whole other world there! In my opinion, the Royal Hotel is not the best place to stay in town. Service was borderline between sullen & grudging, and just non-existent. In the morning when packing up, I accidentally dropped something on the floor. Moving the bed (on very easy-rolling castor wheels) uncovered huge grey wave-like mounds of fluff, dirt, dust and grim, un-vacuumed since however many years since the last time my room was ever redecorated or refurnished... On checking out, I waited to see if anyone would ask me for any comments about my stay, so that I could have a chance to complain about being forced to sleep underneath such a mountain of filth. But no one bothered to ask me. My current employment will bring me back to Scunthorpe many times, but never again to the Royal.
