The Clifton Hotel - Scarborough, United Kingdom
The Clifton Hotel details:
Boasting uninterrupted views over Scarborough’s North Bay and situated only a short distance from many of the town’s attractions, this hotel is the perfect base when visiting the Yorkshire Coast.
North Bay is ideal for families with a host of activities all year round, including Peasholm Park, offering pedal boats, shows and the famous Navel Warfare and the striking pyramids of Scarborough Sea Life Centre where you can go beneath the sea, coming face-to-face with everything from shrimps to sharks.
At the end of your day, you can relax and watch the world go by in the large hotel lounge or the traditional British bar, where you can enjoy your favourite tipple whilst watching the large screen TVs.
With inspirational views across the North Sea and Scarborough’s magnificent castle headland, it’s easy to see how First World War poet Wilfred Owen was inspired to write some of his most famous works at the hotel.
In late 1917 Owen was posted to a reserve battalion, based at The Clifton Hotel, (then known as The Clarence Gardens Hotel). Whilst here, he was able to take time away from his clerical duties and escape to his turret bedroom where he produced “Miners,” the first of his poems to be published.
Renowned for its warm Yorkshire welcome, The Clifton Hotel boasts many return guests. It offers a wide range of bedroom types, in both traditional and contemporary styles and a restaurant known for its high quality Yorkshire fare, using fresh produce.
The hotel’s elegant Castle Ballroom also offers a delightful setting for social functions from Cocktail Parties to Birthday Parties, from Wedding Receptions to Dinner Dances.

just returned from overnight stay here when we arrived staff on reception weren't very friendly really upset when showed to our room it was very dated headboard had fallen off the wall tea and coffee stains on dressing table top awful smell coming from bathroom we complained and someone did come and fix the headboard back on and recleaned the room but we got no apology from anyone and was told if we wanted to complain officially we would need to put this in writing. Food was ok and staff in restaurant were friendly however under no circumstances would i ever stay here again!

We have been to Scarborough many times before but this was our first stay at the Clifton Hotel and may I say it is one of the best hotels that I have stayed at. From the staff to the food everything was fantastic.
All the staff are friendly and charming and always have a smile on their faces and are always there laughing and joking with guests including myself.
The hotel its self obviously is in need of a bit of TLC and a lick of paint as it is a bit dated.
I will definatly be returning to the Clifton and will also recommend it to all my friends & family.
Once again Clifton thanks for a wonderful stay.
