Ok it may not have the mod cons that other hotels have but for atmosphere and history the hotel was fantastic. Huge rooms, excellent staff, good food (although did not have breakfast) and so much to look at, even tales of a few ghosts roaming the hotel and grounds! watch out for the pheasants though, they will randomly wander into the bar if the door is left open which can be a bit unnerving...

Nice room, lovely views, but the plumbing needs a vent pipe as you get' blowback' from the loo which is very noisy, especially from your neighbours in the middle of the night,..not old plumbing as they plead in the info book, but new plumbing incorrectly done. As they were busy with a wedding late pm on the first night we tried the restaurant on the second night, [after a funeral party had left!! Lovely starter but nouvelle cuisine meant a very very tiny main course. Plastic flowers everywhere spoil things but the peahen and her babies were a lovely thing to see in the gardens. We never did get into the lounge as the third night a conference party was ensconsed. That night we had to ring reception to at 12.30am ask if the party in the garden under our window could keep the noise down, and the porters actual words were 'its disgraceful, they are ignoring me, I can't do anything. Shame , a lreally ovely place needs really sorting out. As a former hotel inspector I would come out of retirement!
