This Grade II listed building was built in 1911 by Samuel Ryder, donor of golf's prestigious Ryder Cup, to house his successful seed company. With a sweeping staircase and magnificent stained glass dome, Ryder's original carved fireplace still stands in what was his private office.

Car park offsite - but not a problem to find once given directions. Reception were efficient. Room - bed reasonable (bit narrow), but VERY hot ... despite fan on and windows open STILL very hot ... and this was in May. Really needs to be air conditioned. Bathroom reasonable - but shower seemed to send water horizontally more than vertically! Breakfast reasonable. This hotel is stuck in between the budget / non-budget sectors in both style and price, and doesn't quite know what it is trying to be.
