Egypt Mill Hotel - Nailsworth, United Kingdom     

We stayed one night at the Egypt Mill for a family wedding so it was not our choice...we usually go for something at the lower end of the budget. We arrived early as we wanted to get lunch and change before a 3 o'clock wedding. We were surprised to be allowed into our room ...we had expected just to leave our car registration number for parking and then to walk the few yards into Nailsworth to find a sandwich before coming back for a 2pm check in. The room was in an older building across the river and seemed to be in a basement. But it was a huge airy family room, with a large double bed and a double sofa bed for my son. The usual tea/coffee, hairdryer, TV, and toiletries were provided along with ample towels. The bathroom was clean and bright and the shower lovely and powerful over a bath. The setting of the mill is on the river, but they do not tell you that the road into the hotel passes an emergency services training centre and that the main road is directly on the other side of the hotel.We heard no noise but we were the futhest from the road we could get. The view in the brochure is just looking from the carpark into the hotel. Still it is only a short walk to the shops. We did not eat at the restaurant as we went to a wedding, but the breakfast the next morning was lovely. We came down quite late and service seemed to be winding down, but we got a full English & Smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, along with tea/coffee/toast and could help ourselves from the cereal, juice, yoghurts etc that were laid out on the side. Personally I would not have chosen to stay here as it was quite pricey. But all in all it is a very nice hotel.

We visited the hotel today with the intention of booking seven rooms for a weekend in October. Before looking around the hotel we went into the bar ordered two coffees, after twenty five minutes nothing arrived and the waitress who had taken our order had no recolation of placing our order, she had possibly served four or five customers in the meantime but we were in her view all the time. She offered no apology and didn't appear to understand the error she had made. We were so cross we left without ever seeing the rooms and have taken our custom elsewhere. May be our loss but I don't think so.
