I stayed at the Cherwood hotel after having to make a short trip to Paignton earlier this month. My room was clean and bright with an en-suite shower, flat screen TV, mini fridge and facilities for making tea and coffee. Pauline the hotel manager was lovely and I highly recommend her cooked breakfast!!

This is a fantastic hotel. The breakfasts had an extremely personal touch as did the service and general hotel feeling. (I even had a little teddy bear on my bed when I arrived!) Pauline made me feel welcome the moment I arrived, carrying my rather large bag to my room on the first floor, showing me the facilities and offering tips and advice to a young and single female traveller unfamiliar with the area. As a vegetarian I am used to a rather narrow range of edible luxuries but Pauline's breakfasts were fit for a queen, and that was exactly how I was made to feel for my short break in Paignton recently. Nothing was too much trouble, she was even flexible with my breakfast sitting each morning as I had been enjoying the comfort of my lovely cosy bed for so long and so often missed the 8.30 arranged dining time! I would highly recommend Pauline's Cherwood homely hotel that was warm, cosy and felt just like a home from home. There were even a selection of marmalades and jams, which I was encouraged to fill up on and I can assure you tasted exquisite. Although being situated quite close to the railway line, there was not one sound from any trains at any time, which impressed me no end. I can assure you that if you choose this hotel you will not be disappointed and may even go home with an addiction to the little sweets you will always find replenished in the front entrance as well as on your welcome tray. The fridge is a very personal and thoughtful addition, (something missing from so many of the larger hotel chains) and I imagine to be particularly well used in the summer, although I made plenty of use of it in April also! Facilities are second to none, as the cinema is less than five mins walk away and situated on the coast, immediately next door to the Tourist Information office. The restaurants around and about are very reasonably priced and offer a good selection of just about everything and as a vegetarian I was particularly impressed with the choice available. I was surprised at how close the shops and high street were to the hotel. Just one road away but you don't ever feel overwhelmed by noise, the hotel is in a very peaceful area, with a lovely park just a few yards from the door of the Cherwood. The Paignton and Dartmouth Steam railway is well worth a visit and is about 6 minutes walk from the hotel. Everything is within walking distance and the Cherwood is ideally situated for non-car drivers aswell for it boasts everything you would need in the immediate locality. All I have left to say is go along and find out for yourself, I can promise you hand on heart that you will not be disappointed. Nicola.
