The hotel is great as a charming, comfortable base for walking holidays or from which to explore the beautiful countryside and visit the region’s many heritage sites, all of which are within easy reach. The surrounding landscape offers waterfalls, lakes and mountains. The Welsh border is just a few yards away and the historic towns of Shrewsbury and Oswestry are both within easy reach.

The village of Llanymynech is surrounded by beautiful Shropshire countryside and Welsh hills. The Offas Dyke walk runs straight through the village. Lake Vyrnwy and the Montgomery Canal are within easy walking distance. There is a branch of the Ellesmere Canal that passes through the village, which joins onto the Montgomery Canal at Carreghofa. Lovers of the outdoors and of breath-taking scenery will not be disappointed. The surrounding landscape offers waterfalls, lakes and mountains and the Welsh border is just a few yards from the hotel. The historic towns of Shrewsbury and Oswestry are both within easy reach; Shrewsbury is just 18 miles (30 km) away and Oswestry is only 6 miles (10 km) from the hotel.

Other places of interest in the region include Llanymynech Rocks Nature Reserve and the World Heritage Site at Ironbridge is 35 miles (56 km). There are also several National Trust properties nearby, including Powis Castle, which is 10 miles (16 km) away, Chirk Castle, which is 14 miles (22.5 km) away and Attingham Park, which is 22 miles (35 km) from the hotel.

The restaurant offers great food at reasonable prices and the menu changes seasonally to reflect the finest, freshest ingredients available locally. The menu may include dishes such as Gloucester Old Spot bangers & mash; Severn River salmon with leeks and fennel; Welsh goat's cheese and walnut salad; rhubarb and ginger crumble; chocolate bread and butter pudding.
