We stayed at this hotel overnight on sat - sun. This is a family run hotel which is local to everything. We are a very young couple who enjoy walks and socialising in the pubs and this was a great place. We have stayed here on a number of occassions now and would always go back. Lochgilphead wouldnt be ideal for young families although it is great to see even if you are only travelling through and maybe going somewhere else. It has a lovely seafront and nice walks along that or up by the canel. My partner is origionally from there, so we go to visit his father and even though it is a very small place it is a busy place aswell. Thee are surrounding places to go if you have a car and lots of great scenary. The hotel itself is clean an tidy, the rooms are your standard bed, tv and ensuite which is great. The prices are average and not at all pricey. They have 2 great dogs and a lovely wee boy Cameron who is so funny. They offer meals at ight aswell.
All in all if you are looking for a quiet night away or a trip up north would defantely recommend the stag hotel.

The Stag charges £60 per night for a double room and claims to have a 2 star rating. We stayed for two nights on the second floor and couldn't wait to get away.
The staff were not unfriendly, but they didn't realy seem all that bothered about having guests. The stairs and corridor smelt of cigarettes and damp. Our room was fairly clean, but (like other parts of the hotel) I don't think it had seen a vacum cleaner in a while. The decor and furniture were shabby and dated, and the kettle was broken. The bathroom was a damp, carpeted room with a strange free-standing plastic shower cubicle in one corner. The light in the "shower box" was broken, so showers were rather gloomy events. The windows were in a state of disrepair - the paint was peeling, and they didn't close properly. There was secondary glazing in the bed room, but again, this didn't close properly.
The real problem was noise. The hotel has a bar that is open to 1am on Friday and Saturday nights. On the second floor we couldn't hear much noise directly from the bar. What we did hear all too well were groups of people talking loudly outside the back of the hotel until past closing time - either groups of smokers from the bar, or groups of teenagers congregating in the car park at the back of the hotel. There was also loud TV and radio from the room next door until well into the small hours both nights. As far as I could tell we were the only guests on the second floor and I got the impression that the considerate inhabitants of the other rooms were staff. If you're not staying out until 2am, then take some ear plugs.
When we checked out there was an unfinished pint of beer left on the reception desk - classy! On the plus side the cooked breakfast was okay.
