The king malcolm hotel situated on the outskirts of Dunfermline was a disapointment when first sighted from the main road it looked like a cross between grey portakabins and a Happy Eater.
They've made an attempt to smarten the reception and eating area but the rooms are sub-standard, old and shabby, not at all what you'd expect for ?105 a night. That much does not even get you breakfast. ?11 for full 'Scottish', ?8.50 for 'continental' just didn't seem like good value as the night before we'd stayed in the Marroitt Glasgow for the same price, it was very smart and modern and breakfast was all you could eat inclusive.
On the plus side it was quiet, not many guests and some of the staff were friendly and helpful. That's about it, we'll not be going back.

We have just returned from a 4 day Christmas stay at this hotel. The staff are very friendly and courteous. Hotel very clean and very clean bedroom and bathroom. The rooms have trouser press, tea and coffee (which is replaced every day), iron and ironing board, hairdrier, television, very comfortable beds. The room is very warm. Bathrooms are quite a good size, with very powerful showers over the bath. Also a retractable clothesline. The food was excellent, plenty of it and piping hot. Nothing was to much of a bother. The only complaint we had was too much food, you never had time to be hungry.
