Trethorne Hotel - Newquay, United Kingdom 

We were very happy with our stay at the Trethorne. The staff was friendly and will to help in any way to make our stay good. It's a family place and the group gathered in the common room after dinner was great fun. The staff joked around with each other and the guests had a blast. The rooms are typical middle class B+B. Small, a bit old, but clean. Again, when we had a little problem with the lightbulb in the bath, the staff was up to fix it literally within a minute. Better service than any Hilton. Newquay's a bit young and surferish for my style, but the Trethorne's not in the middle of the club area so it should be quiet and trouble free for families. If we go back to Newquay, I'll plan to stay again.

When we arrived at this hotel we looked at the front and wondered what we had gotten ourselves into. We decided to give it a chance. We should have run the other way. This was the worst hotel we have ever stayed in. The room was so small. There was no room to set anything out. We had to leave everything in our luggage after we used it. There were no glasses in the room for drinking. The bathroom smelled of piss. We felt filthy just being in there. The wallpaper is falling off the walls. The new management has a long way to go if they expect this place to be a decent hotel. We spent as much time away so as not to have to be in the room. When we arrived back at the hotel in the evening all the lights were out and we had to drum up someone to serve us a drink. The price for four of us was 18 lbs. Very expensive. They don't even have ice. She had to make it everytime we asked. The English breakfast was just as bad. The sausage tasted horrible and it was nothing but fat. The only reason we stayed was because we couldn't get our money back. I would suggest that you just pass this hotel up. A one star rating is even too much.
