Originally a coaching inn reputedly frequented by Lord Nelson and Lady Hamilton, this hotel is conveniently positioned just off the M4, and 2 minutes’ walk from the nearest railway station.
The birthplace of the Welsh Rugby Union (founded in 1881), the Castle Hotel has a rich history, and still retains its friendliness, good food, wines and cosy comfort.
The hotel is the perfect base for visitors to South Wales. From Neath you can discover historic monuments and castles, explore the scenic countryside and relax on the fine beaches which make this area so popular. With such a wide range of activities and places to see, Afan and the Vale of Neath is an ideal location for a relaxing family holiday or an action packed excursion.
We have our own private walled and gated car park just 20 m from the front of the hotel. In addition, next to the car park, we have a warehouse with electric roller shutter doors for the secure overnight storage of mountain bikes.

Location

'Waterfalls Country' stretches across the wooded valleys from Neath to the southern edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park. Nearby Margam Country Park offers beauty, history and wildlife set in 850 acres of glorious parkland.
Afan Forest Park: 6 miles (9.7 km) - Voted one of the world's top 10 places to ride by 'What Mountain Bike' magazine in 2005. It boasts a huge selection of fantastic mountain-biking trails. Varying in length and difficulty, all trails offer adrenaline-boosting single-track descents and spectacular views of what is known as 'Little Switzerland', one of the most beautiful valleys in South Wales.
Brechfa Forest: 39 miles (63 km) - Just outside Carmarthen, you can find more trails and beautiful views and scenery.

Our restaurant also offers a full à la carte menu with a Welsh flavour, and an extensive wine list served in comfortable surroundings.
For private dining, we have 2 function rooms. The Abbey Suite can cater for up to 120 people, while the Centenary Room can accommodate up to 40 people. The inaugural meeting of the Welsh Rugby Union took place in this wood panelled room on 12th March 1881.
