This hotel is in the same building as a sports club/YMCA. Our largish room was near the basketball courts and was noisy during the day, but very quiet after about 8 PM. The food was good, and the location was great for canal, museums, and trams. It was a bit hard to find how to get there though. Parking was about a block from the main entrance.

I stayed at the Castlefield for 2 days in May. The room was good - very spacious but decor could be updated. The hotel itself was immaculate and reception staff very professional and courteous. The leisure centre was also good. The location was good - only a short walk into Manchester city centre. The downside was the breakfast on the Sunday (buffett style at the weekend) - this was lukewarm and there was hardly any choice and no beans like the previous morning! Overall, I would recommend this hotel.

Mediocre
Bargain

Stopped here for one night over the bank holiday weekend and would recommend as a real bargain for one or two nights. It cost us £40 B&B for a double room (surprisingly large) + £4 parking overnight and ALL the next day (very useful). Breakfast was cooked buffet style and was fine also. You even get free access to a gym and good sized swimming pool next door. The staff were very friendly too. Obviously this is a budget hotel so you may find a loose handle on a window and the walls are not the thickest - unfortunately we had a couple next door who must have been practicing for an international overnight door slamming competition but that's not the hotel's fault. Location is literally yards away from the Museum of Science and Industry and I think you can even get a canal boat to Old Trafford on football match days (when I should imagine the hotel will get fully booked up in advance). Overall though for the money I could find little to complain about and would recommend for short stays such as having an interview in Manchester and you need to save your pennies.
