Best Western Forest Lodge Hotel - Lyndhurst, United Kingdom     

We have just returned from a two night break in the beautiful New Forest. The weather was ok, the scenery was lovely and the hotel was acceptable. Location of Hotel: Good, a nice walk into Lymington with its quaint shops, pubs and restaurants. Would recommend the Crown Brasserie in the town centre. Rooms: Ok but in need of a revamp, the bathroom was quite old and although the taps and tiles had been redone the rest of the bathroom looked a bit tired. The room itself was fairly clean, but the bed was very uncomfortable. Breakfast: The food was good, they now make breakfast to order(choice of continental and veggie or full english with choice of eggs)but nearly all of the glasses and crockery were very dirty and we had to ask for it to be replaced. Facilities: As all of the shops in the town are closed after 9pm a mini bar or shop would be a good idea, as if you want to get a drink upon returning to the hotel after a night out you can only buy glasses of drink from the bar. The swimming pool and sauna was quite good, clean and totally empty when we were there. Staff: Fine, not over enthusiastic but then most of them seem to be young girls without much training. But then we did find this in quite a few places in the New Forest. Overall we had a lovely weekend, its a great time of year to go to the New Forest with all of the new born foals about. The hotel was pleasant enough, although don't expect too much. I would also like to recommend Arniss Equestrian at Godshill near Fordingbridge for a very enjoyable ride out into the New Forest park.

Good hotel, good location, friendly staff and nice food. We had a potential disaster on the first night though - having gone out at about 6pm, we got back at about 11.30pm. The hotel had all lights out and a message by the door saying "If you have forgotten your late key please ring the buzzer". However: a) We had not been told about any "late key" b) We rang the buzzer about 30 times but there was no response After having tried to find open windows etc, we were contemplating trying to find another hotel or sleeping in the garden, a couple who had the magical "late key" let us in so everything ended ok after the panic....
