My fiance and I stayed here for 4 nights in early June, 2007, and absolutely loved the place. Room was simple, but very clean, comfortable, and exactly what we were looking for. There is about a 10 minute walk to the beach, which wasn't bad at all. And maybe 15 to 20 minutes to the heart of town where all the restaurants and action is. That is part of what we loved about Ikaros. You are just far enough away to not feel smothered by the crowds (which were still pretty light in June. August must be bad...) but close enough to easily get to town. We never touched the pool because the beaches in Naxos were so great, but the other guests at Ikaros seemed to like the pool I would recommend renting an ATV to see the island and beaches. We got a small one (50cc) for 2 days and it was great. You can easily get to parts of the island that the buses won't take you, and you do it on your schedule. We also rented a car for a day so we could get into the mountain towns, but I preferred the 4-wheeler/ATV. The hotel staff is SO friendly and they can setup car or ATV rental to come direct to the Hotel. Very convenient. My only complaint was that the AC costs extra. We decided we didn't need it and got bit up by bugs when we left the windows open. Really it was our fault. The Wireless internet in the hotel was also great.
