The Star Hotel - Southampton, United Kingdom     

My first impression of this hotel was good, with a friendly greeting from the receptionist, however that was the only good part. Most of the staff were rude, grumpy and unsmiling. The room was clean and reasonably comfortable as one would expect, but very basic. A wedding reception was in progress when I checked in, and the dining room was being set up for the reception. The receptionist incorrectly directed me through the dining room to access my room, but because of the wedding I was apparently meant to take an alternative route. A very grumpy old man sent me back out and so I returned to the reception desk to see the receptionist being scolded. I was then given convoluted directions to access my room a different way - going up 3 floors, across the building and then back down again! I got lost in the rabbit warren of a building before finally reaching my room. The next morning, passing through the dining room again, the grumpy old man was still there, ignored my cheery "good morning" and not so much as a glance. When I handed back my key to check out, there was no "did you enjoy your stay?" or "thank you", only a "that's fine thanks" - again no returned smile, barely any eye contact. What kind of service IS this? I definitely do not recommend this hotel. It seems if there is any sort of function going on, "regular" hotel guests are just an annoyance.

I stayed at this hotel... if thats what you would call it. They said on the phone that they would charge me ?35..... THEN they said they would charge me ?45 when I arrived! I had used my card over the phone to hold the room. Which is standard procedure, however I paid the lady in cash. When i got up to the room. The sheets were stained the towels were stained and my room had a bathroom all the way up the hall way. The bed was broke and was sinking! On top of this when i got home they charged me ?45 on my card! so they charged me ?90 for one night!! DISGUSTING HOTEL DONT STAY HERE!! the breakfast was cold and there weren't enough to cater.
