My husband & I rented a car in Bled, Slovenia & were travelling around Slovenia/Croatia. We happened to drive into Opatija & noticed the Grand/Bellevue Hotel (we learned later they are actually sister hotels). Whilst my husband waited in the car I went into the lobby & spoke to a very delightful man behind the desk, Ante. This was the beginning of our pleasureable stay at this hotel. The rooms are from an era of bygone days, faded, but grand. Our very large room, complete with its own entranceway, had French doors that opened up to a balcony that faced the Adriatic. Very romantic, but since it was Oct. all was quiet, not sure what it would be like in the height of the tourist season!!! The breakfasts consisted of a variety of foods. Ante, as well as other staff, helped us plan our time around Opatija & when we left, we were supplied with various maps. Ante made sure we had reservations in Plitvec which is essential as there are limited rooms by the park. Good thing he did too even in off season. Even though the hotel is worn & needs updating, the price, room size & helpful staff make up for the faded hotel.
