The hotel is situated on the river banks of Mosel, with a nice view of the old town, the Burg Landshut and the (steep) vineyards - very nice. Situated next tot he bridge, means that it's just a short stroll to the old town with all it's "weinstube" (wine bars) and restaurants (the hote does not have it's own restaurant, but there are plenty nearby). The breakfast was good, and there is a nice weinstube in the cellar of the hotel. The rooms are very clean. Only drawback is the lack of aircondition, during our stay the temperature was 30 celcius outside, so the room became somewhat hot.

We stayed here by chance, having come over to the Moselle from the disappointing Nahe. The way in from the small car park at the back is strange, through a covered parking area and up some dozen or more stairs, then round to the right and into the lift to the first floor reception. The main entrance is on the busy road between shops by the bridge, but you can't park there, and that will be up 7 steps anyway, before you take the lift as before. It is easy to miss the small entrance, but not the hotel itself - as you come across the bridge its the large old building on your left. We booked in for one night asking for a river view room. This had a small balcony you could sit out on and gaze at the old town opposite, the traffic on the bridge connecting Bernkastel & Kues, and the commercial and pleasure river traffic, and a lovely view up to the castle ruins half-way up the hill opposite surrounded by vineyards up the precipitous slopes. The room itself was not spacious but adequate enough. It was such a delightful outlook that we later that night booked in for a further two nights. This must have caused a problems as it later transpired that a coach tour were booked in for the next night, so at no extra cost we were moved the next day into a much larger room (no 11) with an enormous shared balcony with the same kind of view. There is no restaurant, but a large breakfast room with a small range of foods. The hotel abounds with oil paintings by the proprietor Uwe Linke, a lot of them very strange - I am not an art connoisseur but many of them looked like pastiches of Dali and other surrealist paintings plus some of his own ideas. Maybe an acquired taste, but they did add something to the stay. This is not a modern hotel, but has been modernised to some extent, and everything was spotlessly clean. The proprietors English is as limited as my German, but he in particular was very helpful indeed, recommending two super restaurants to us for dinner, helping us find the bus station for a day out to Traben-Trarbach (you see more from a bus), how to get up to the castle etc. At 93 Euros a night its not cheap at 1.2 Euros to a ?, but breakfast was included, and the views and convenience of the hotel (5 minutes walk to the old town across the river) made it a very worth while place to stay. Other hotels across the river did not appear to have their own car parks.
