Me and my brother stayed in Belgrave Hotel 3 nights. It is located very closed de OVAL tube station and was fairly easy to find. The neighbourhood was clean, quiet and safe. It's is a chip hotel.Staff were very nice and helpful. The rooms were a little small, but it was very clean, very nice witht LCD tv and new furniture. The continental breakfast also made for a good start to the day

Great little Budget Hotel!

We stayed at the Belgrave Hotel in Oval for our 5 night short break to London. We were looking for accommodation on a budget as we wanted to spend our money on eating out and having a good time, rather than accommodation that we would hardly ever be in! The Belgrave Hotel fulfilled all of our requirements for a comfortable stay in Central London. We paid ?300 for the two of us for 5 nights, which was great value for money considering how central you are. The nearest tube station (Oval) is literally a 1.5 minute walk down the road from the hotel, and pretty much every famous attraction (Big Ben, London Eye, Oxford Street, London Dungeon etc) are within a 15 minute tube ride from the Belgrave. The only drawback that I could identify from this hotel was the size. The double rooms are very "compact" and this would definately be an issue in the summer as the rooms do not have air conditioning. On the other hand, for the amount of time that we were actually in our room, this wasn't too much of an issue. The hotel was immaculately clean and tidy, towels and bed-linen changed daily, and the continental breakfast comprising of cereal, fruit, croissants, toast, tea, coffee and orange juice was more than adequate to set us up for the tiring sight-seeing days ahead! All in all a great little hotel- don't think you'd find better quality or location for the price. DON'T be put off by the non-descript exterior of the hotel, as this really isn't reflected inside!

i've stayed at this hotel many times since i discovered it last year; in fact, i just booked to stay again in a couple of weeks. reading the negative reviews, i just have to laugh at things like 'the management was all foreign...' or whatever nonsense. well, no duh! i'm an American expat happily living in England for the last four years and of course, to many Americans, 'foreign' is something to be treated w/suspicion. i stay here whenever i'm in London when my friends' flats are too crowded and i've never regretted it. as well, i feel perfectly safe walking around at all hours in the neighborhood. one of my favorite clubs is in the area and i've walked from Brixton Road to the Belgrave by myself or w/a friend at anywhere from 3-6AM w/o giving it a 2nd thought (and i'm not a big husky type; i've been told i look like a little girl). the Belgrave has always given me perfectly clean rooms, great service and a very friendly, helpful staff who've gone out of their ways to accommodate me, whether it's calling taxis at whatever hour or bringing me extra tea, coffee and sugar straight to my room if i miss breakfast or giving me a wake-up call, they're totally reliable and true to their word. regarding the complaint about the narrow staircase and the lounge: i wonder why the complainer just didn't ask for help at the desk? anyway, i recommend the Belgrave for anyone looking for safe, clean and inexpensive accommodation in walking distance to Brixton, one of the more interesting neighborhoods of South London.
