Have you stayed here ?
Has everything except character
Posted: Tue, Mar 13 2007
Well located at 101 Knightsbridge (excellent seafood restaurant -- yes, it is possible in England -- of the same name in the hotel). My mother and I stayed here and enjoyed the proximity to boutiques and of course Harvey Nicks and Harrods (the food halls were the best part). The staff were uniformly courteous, efficient and discreet and the room was immaculate and understated. One of the draws of the Park Tower was the modern design and clean lines of the rooms, a refreshing change from the heavy draperies, floral patterns and fussy traditional decor of many other London hotels. The semi-circular design gave our room a more spacious feel and the large windows allow for lovely park views. Beds were exceptionally comfortable although the bathroom layout made poor use of the available space. The lobby is small and quiet (the low ceiling makes it seem particularly hushed), dark woods and dimmed lighting, not the marble and glass atrium sort of decor that seems standard in many 5* hotels. As a another reviewer noted, there is really nothing to fault about this hotel -- except perhaps a lack of character. There are more luxurious hotels with more interesting history (the Dorchester, Claridges), trendier boutiques (One Aldwych) and many more value-oriented hotels. Overall, there is much to recommend about the Park Tower -- service was impeccable, and very generous with the complimentary water and chocolates on turn-down service -- although its restraint and efficiency make it difficult to be entirely charmed or wowed. Would particularly recommend for female travellers (very safe area, helpful staff), business travellers (although a 24 hour Internet connection was an extortionate 40GBP) and couples. Perhaps too understated for younger couples, families with children or those looking for the diversions of the West End.

Good
Amazing views, if you get the right room

This was my second stay at this hotel, and both times at an Executive room. The hotel is wonderfully located very close to a metro station, and across the street from Harvey Nichols, and a 5 minute walk from Harrods. As far as location is concerened, it gets 5/5. Check in was friendly and fast (actually, I arrived at around 11:30am, and was given my room immediately, although I was very early). The concierge service is always there to help, and has always been very good to answer all my questions regarding transportation and other things. Overall, the staff is very polite and efficient. 5/5. The room is very clean, although a tad "tired" (especially if you look up close at some of the furniture and the paint job around the windows). The bed is gloriously comfortable. The bathroom has both a walk in shower and a bathtub. Not too many luxury amenities though. In my opinion, the rooms are due for a bit of a "refresher". Overall the room gets a 4/5. The view is incredible, but I guess this depends where your rooom is. Mine had a view of the London Eye and the Big Ben! 5/5 for the view! The rate I paid was a special AAA rate, but at a total of 300UKP / night, the price value ratio, even for London is at around 3,5/5. Overall, a good choice while in London, but not much above a "Sheraton".

Okay
One of the Best Sheratons

As a starwood gold member, I have stayed in a lot of Sheratons over the past number of years, but this one is one of the best. The staff was wonderful, and handled all our minor problems with ease and customer service. (We had to add a night through central reservation because we arrived a day early to beat a snowstorm in the US and central reservations had screwed up the added night, but the front desk manager fixed it right up). They upgraded us even though we used points for the bulk of our stay (which has never happened when I use points) and even let us check in at 10am despite a normal 3pm check in time. This hotel has all the amentities, although the food in the hotel resturant and drinks at the bar were pricey, even by London standards. The location is awsome...down the block from Harrods and a 2 min. walk to the tube. If you can use points the park tower is a must, but good even if you can find even a slightly discounted rate.

Great location, great upgrade, needs a little updating
Posted: Mon, Feb 19 2007
We stayed here for two nights and were lucky enough to receive an upgrade to a butler room because of my Starwood platinum status. The hotel is in a great location with easy access to great shopping and is a moderate distance to the major sights in west London. The hotel does have a dated feel to it (stained throw rug, frayed sheets in room), but the positives outweigh the negatives especially if you book the hotel at a discounted rate or use points. The woman at the front desk was a pleasure to deal with.
