Location for Joseph-great Pre dinner meal good value and staff friendly. Room - Club Double?????? 9th Floor garret room no air conditioning (fan supplied) just moved hot air around had to sleep on top of bed too warm to get into bed properly Very doubtful if going to use hotel again - Overpriced for room Travel lodge better value for accomodation

I have stayed at the Strand Palace during trips to London for years. It is a simple, straightforward hotel -- nothing fancy, but certainly more than adequate. What makes it my hotel of choice, however, is the location ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN THE PERFORMING ARTS -- 2 blocks from Covent Garden, an easy walk from most theatres, directly in the heart of the city's activities. I always refer to it as the tourist hotel across the road from the Savoy -- just as convenient, but not as posh and certainly much less expensive. If the arts are an interest, this is a great hotel for you. As I am a compulsive theatre goer this is my hotel of choice.

Hotel is excellently situated for Covent Garden, Charing Cross, and Trafalgar Square areas. Rooms are a little small but clean and comfortable. Fans take the place of A/C so may be a little warm in midsummer. Breakfast buffet is excellent. Bus service available right outside the door for the St Paul's and Tower Bridge areas. In-room safes for security.

Clean but hot

My daughter and I spent 2 nights, we paid for standard twin room but was given complimentary club twin room. Hotel and rooms very clean but no airconditioning so it was very hot despite the fan on the whole time, we had to shut the windows at night as we were facing the busy strand road. For a 3 star hotel i think it was a bit pricey considering the rooms had no airconditioning and the price ?290 for 2 nights did not include breakfast.

Holiday at the Strand

On arrival the trainee receptionist had a most unhelpfu arrogant manner. She questioned the incluson of breakfast in our rate, which had been prebooked. Had not another girl come to the rescue there would have been a row and the manager would have been involved. The matter was sorted by another member of staff who was peasant and helpful. The bedroom was comfortable as were the beds and generally adequate. However it was excessively hot and only one window opened slightly. An electric fan was provided in the wardrobe but even with this on the room was stifling during the night. Neither my wife or I slept much. The bathroom was adequate with a good shower and plety of hot water, but no extractor fan. It became like a sauna if you used the bath or shower - not a pleasant experience. The breakfasts were buffet style and the cold food of a high standard. The hot food however was never more than tepid, so a "full english breakfast" wasn't great. The food in the dining room was averagge standard with pleasant staff. They offered reasonable pre-theatre meal but once in the restaurant, the drinks cost more than the meal. With wine at over ?5 a glass and a small coffe ?3 and an inferior cappucino at ?4 I was not amused. We will not be staying at the Strand palace again. It obviously trades on it's excellent position in the Strand, but the standards are not of the 21st century. J S Mercer
