Location

The Waldorf is located in London’s West End on Aldwych, next to Covent Garden with Long Acre, Victoria Embankment (next to the River Thames) and the Strand leading to Trafalgar Square.

Covent Garden (a 5-minute walk) is colourful and busy, with famous theatres and the latest dazzling shows; exclusive boutiques on the piazza, and the Royal Opera House.

London’s most famous square, Trafalgar Square, is nearby and home to the 56-metre (185-feet) tall Nelson’s Column and the National Portrait Gallery, with over 10,000 pieces in its collection.

Across the Aldwych guests can find Somerset House, a Renaissance-style palace with a fabulous courtyard hosting music concerts and art exhibitions.

Within close proximity of the hotel are also St Paul’s and Westminster cathedrals, the Royal Courts of Justice and the Southbank (on the south side of the River Thames, walking distance over Waterloo bridge) with galleries, the National Theatre and the British Film Institute.

Rooms

Offering some of the best luxury hotel rooms to be found in London’s West End, all Waldorf Hilton rooms are equipped with the latest technology and come in 2 distinct styles: contemporary and design. Contemporary rooms retain some selected historic features, whereas the design concept provides superb accommodation combined with an immaculate environment, creating a minimalist, clutter-free feel.

All rooms feature exclusive Ligne Roset beds (with a luxury mohair throw), 2 telephone lines, a wall-mounted plasma-screen TV, lever door handle, climate-controlled air conditioning, rechargeable in-room laptop safe, original freestanding Edwardian chrome and marble wash-stand (in contemporary rooms), a bespoke cutting-edge wash-stand with ceramic sit-on basin (in design rooms), power jet or rain drop showers, Crabree and Evelyn toiletries, and an ergonomically designed desk chair.

The ceiling pendant, with flexible silver branches supporting an array of individually lit shades, can be configured differently in each room.

Dining

The Waldorf's restaurant, Homage, is designed to be relaxed, glamorous and with its unique position on the Aldwych, a little theatrical. Homage serves classical dishes, as well as contemporary favourites. The wine list is predominantly old-world European and, like the food, it is both accessible and affordable.

The Homage Grand Salon restaurant features Louis XVI-style decor, with original Ionic columns and a walk-in wine cabinet.

Homage Patisserie is classic and sophisticated with wood-panelled walls and period furniture. Waldorf's renowned afternoon teas, with freshly made cakes, scones and vienoisserie prepared daily by Waldorf’s executive chef patissier, can be enjoyed there.

The Homage Bar, the trendy and avant-garde addition to London's night-life scene, serves signature gin-based cocktails, as well as all the classics.

I don't really know what to say we definately had a mixed experience at this hotel. The hotel is absolutely stunning from the outside, its a beautiful building in a great location. We arrived at the Waldorf as part of the final leg of our journey from Italy, we had set off from Italy at 11am, got a taxi to Nice and a train to Paris, where we caught the Eurostar at 8pm and arrived in London at around 11pm. We were shattered with over a weeks worth of holiday lugage. Anyway we were greeted by friendly reception staff and checked in without a problem, unfortunately we were not offered any help with our 3 suitcases so this was rather frustrating as there was only myself and my boyfriend. We got the lift up to our room which was awkward as when you arrive on the floor there are lots of single steps which are rather annoying when you have luggage. We arrived at the room and it was beautiful but VERY VERY VERY small, infact I think the bathroom was possibly bigger than the actual room (we were paying ?205 for the night for the tiniest room I have ever seen). To add to the problem it was the WARMEST room I have every been in with the most humidity, the window wouldn't open, the air conditioning was broken and the extractor fan wouldn't work in the bathroom so after my shower the entire room was full of steam making it even more unbareable. There was literally sweat pouring off my boyfriend and he was very upset as we were so tired. The room was so small we kept tripping over our cases all the time as there was nowhere to put them!! Anyway after nearly an hour we decided enough was enough and phoned down to reception to move rooms which they allowed us to do. The room we were taken to was a lot cooler but still as minute. The room itself aside from the size is gorgeous, wonderful fixtures in the bathroom and a lovely miniatures pack from Crabtree and Evelyn. The bed was extremely comfortable with lovely soft sheets. The space in the room though was just so poor, even the bed, 1 side was pushed up against the wall so to get out of it I either had to climb over my partner or climb down the bed, it was just a joke. Fortunately the next morning we went for breakfast and it was delicious, they hold breakfast buffet in the grand ball room and it was spectacular, very nice. Our train wasn't until 4pm so we asked if it was ok if we stayed until 12 and they said it was fine which was nice. They also held our luggage for us while we did a bit of shopping. the staff were a lot more helpful at check out and even helped us with our bags and got us a taxi. Overall after staying in other hotels in London for half the price and twice the value I wouldn't stay at the Waldorf again.
