I worked in Kendal for a few months and stayed at the County mid week for 2 months. Yes it does look at a bit dated but I found the facilities perfectly ok, it is clean and the rooms are fine if a little .... dated. However it does offer good value for money when compared with most nearby hotels. You will pay the same price for a BnB. Staff were very friendly although most of your fellow travellers tend to be a coach party. If I was staying in the lakes I would consider the County. One other review said it was noisy, it is on a fairly busy roundabout but it was not that bad and the windows have double glazing.

I stayed at the County Hotel Kendal last week 1.10.2007 for four nights. The hotel was looking rather tired and in need of refurbishment, especially the bathroom in room 211. The toilet seat was cracked and chipped, the shower was only for the height of a three year old, everything in there was old and tired. The bath was large and there was plenty of lovely hot, soft water which was a pleasure to soak in, pity the rest of the room was'nt up to scratch.
The bedroom was adequate enough with everything in it. The noise from the traffic outside the window was horrendous, in fact I have never stayed in such a noisy bedroom in my life. As I was situated at the front of the hotel the traffic from five junctions roared around all day and most of the night so sleep was in short supply, which does not strike me as a holiday to relax. For this reason I would not recommend this hotel to anyone unless they where stone deaf, in which case the room would be fine.
