My fiance and I decided to book a room in this hotel for a romantic getaway in the Pennines. After all the good reviews we read on Trip Advisor, we were pretty confident we would have a fantastic weekend. Especially because we had a very good offer 'booze and snooze' with 1 night, dinner and full breakfast included for just ?69! Unfortunately, it didn't happen quite as planned. First of all, when we arrived, the lady at the reception informed us that because of a wedding, the main restaurant would be closed and we would have to eat in another room. We thought that they could have warned us on the phone when we booked as a wedding can be quite noisy (even though we didn't hear a thing in the end). Howerver, the real problem has been the food: probably because the chefs were very busy with the wedding, our menu was more than basic. It was basically pub food, which was disapointing for an award winning restaurant. Also, when we checked in and opened the door of our room (21), we were very disapointed too. It wasn't at all like the one on the hotel's pictures. Even if it was very clean, it was old, badly decorated and the bathroom looked quite dingy too. On top of that the lovely view on the pennines was a view on the ... motorway! We asked to change our room and they accepted. Our new room was a lot nicer, especially the bathroom. The view was still the same but the motorway wasn't quite as visible. On our second day, we were already happier having had a nice breakfast and visited the pennines. In the evening, we were still in a good mood: the restaurant was re-opened and this time the food was back to normal and I have to say delicious! But later on this evening, our luck turned again. First of all, the hotel had organised a party upstairs and we were disturbed by the people of this party (loud people at 1 a.m, people smoking, very loud radio next to our room...) and second of all, the food was very nice but I was sick and euh... spent some more time in our nice bathroom. On the whole, we really think the hotel was nice. Our second room was nice too (with some free sherry and chocolate). The staff was friendly and efficient. However, we have been in nicer 3* hotels and it was a good thing we had a good offer: I wouldn't pay full price for this hotel. If you decide you want to go there, make sure you check if the hotel is hosting a wedding or a party and if they do, don't go there because they don't give priority to their 'normal' customers and you'll be disapointed.
