I have spent many nights at the King's Head Lanchester as my elderly aunt stays in a residential home right next door. It has been the ideal place for me and my husband to stay but the breakfasts have always been a hit or miss...mostly a miss! Our last (and it unfortunately will be our last) visit was in April 2008. To cut a very long story short our breakfast was never served as the chef overslept and the the cleaner had to drag him out of bed! After two letters sent we have had absolutely no response and are still waiting on a refund for two cooked breakfasts.

I've just returned from staying a week at The Kings Head and decided just to look up "the place" on the net.. After reading some of the review's I thought I just have to add one myself. Since "we" as a company travel a lot, first impressions were excellant.. All what you'd expect- TV, tea and coffee ect.. and an iron with ironing board, not what I'm used too! Nice warm and clean room, and the breakfast was really impressive. I was in room 366 and the only "pain" was the clock chiming every 15mins. 3 days into the stay, I noticed "Blood" on the wall and where my work mate's bed was, a huge whole filled with toilet paper!!! The cleaner missed a day making the beds and also had taken the towels but never replaced them. One of the days, the cup for the night previous had been "swilled" out and not cleaned or replaced..It was still dirty and wet inside.. Not looking too good now..?They were minor though, nothing that couldn't be rectified.. Pleasent staff and overall average if not slightly above. Not a place maybe for a Honeymoon, but with a little work and care to detail, would be a great place to stay!
