The New Inn - Gloucester, United Kingdom 3 star hotel

Address: 16 Northgate St, Gloucester, GL1 1SF
The New Inn details:  Situated right in the heart of Gloucester, the New Inn is the perfect place to stay. Fully licensed restaurant, comfortable rooms and a traditional Gloucester welcome.

Built from around 1430, as an inn for pilgrims who came to the Cathedral, it has a medieval courtyard with galleries on all sides. The Chapman Group have recently bought the New Inn and have restored the bedrooms that were converted into offices, and refurbished the buildings. It has been described as the finest example of a medieval galleried Inn to be seen in Britain today. The New Inn's carvery grill and restaurant is the place to eat in Gloucester. Our Chef takes great pride in the creation of our traditional English Fare. The restaurant seats up to 80 and chefs specials and a full grill menu are available daily. The traditional atmosphere and wonderful beamed rooms make for an unbeatable place to eat.

Please be aware that the hotel has no lift.

The Carvery & Grill restaurant recreates classic English fayre of centuries gone by, whilst the real ale bar offers up to 12 different cask ales. Meanwhile, the relaxing and comfortable coffee shop serves a wide range of traditional and speciality teas, coffees and cakes, The Regency Function Suite can accommodate up to 80 guests and is perfect for that special occasion be it a wedding, party or conference.

Location

Gloucester is rightly renowned for its remarkable Cathedral, parts of which date back 1300 years. The historic Gloucester Docks have recently been renovated as a leisure and shopping complex but still holds host to the National Waterways Museum.

The nearby city of Cheltenham is just a stones throw away and is famous for antique and book shops as well as horse racing.

Rooms

The New Inn's spacious and comfortable bedrooms are spread over 2 floors and all feature, colour TV's, en-suite facilities and tea and coffee making facilities. All the rooms have recently been refurbished to a high standard.

We have altogether 31 superior single/twin/double rooms and 2 four poster suites which both offer 2 different types of decor.

The Oak Suite is the oldest of the bedrooms throughout the hotel - and certainly the most magnificent, with its opulent four poster bed and exposed oak beams and oak panelling. Or we also have the Lady Jane Grey Suite which is a modern up to date four poster suite.

Stayed for 2 nights with friends. Was very wary as previous reviews didnt sound so good. However had a wonderful stay, it seems there has been some management change recently and it really showed. There was a very warm welcome with a tour around the hotel with some history. The 2 rooms we had were lovely, and although we stayed on both friday and saturday night we weren't kept awake by discos as they no longer have them. I would stay here again and would recommend it highly.
