TripTake Traveler Reviews
Rennie Mackintosh, Renfrew street, Glasgow. What a dump. Stayed there one night. When we arrived the receptionist was on the phone organising some one to baby sit her dog. When she finally finished we were given keys to room 3.
The ceiling was covered in cobwebs, the curtains swag was held in its place with a piece of toilet paper stuffed in the several holes that had been drilled all over the wall to accommodate the tie.
The bathroom was grotty to the extreme, all the grout had come out of the floor tiles, the shower cubicle was mouldy, mouldy, mouldy and the retaining ring on the shower tap fell off and covered the shower tray in mould. The paint was falling off the ceiling onto the bathroom floor. Some one had punched a hole in the bathroom door!
The bed pillows were the flattest I have ever seen in my life and the bed was smelly.
Breakfast the next morning consisted of bacon and some sort of potatoes waffle that had been prepared some hours earlier and kept warm to the point of dehydration and beyond. The mushrooms were out of a tin and the poached egg was, as the bacon, pre-cooked to the extent that it was hard boiled. A complaint to the foreign waitress was utterly pointless.
Avoid this place if you have any taste. I do not know, and shudder to think, what sort of homes people live in when they can give a good review to this establishment.
Booked the Rennie Mackintosh Hotel for a one night post-theatre break!
Hotel is in a terraced building, up a steep flight of steps, just along from Glasgow School of Art. Central but quiet location, behind Sauchiehall Street, with limited on-street parking and 24-hr multi storey car parking nearby.
My single room & ensuite shower room were basic but clean. Reception staff helpful.
Breakfast was 'cooked to order': orange juice was watery and tasteless, but bacon and sausage were of good quality. Scrambled egg was delicious - freshly made and not the 'rubbery' type associated with so many hotel breakfasts!
I booked my room through a hotel booking website and paid ?35 for a single room with breakfast - but on checking out noticed that most other rooms were being charged ?30. Perhaps it is worthwhile booking directly with the hotel!
