This has to be the worst hotel that myself and my husband have ever stayed in.Room was ok but breakfasts were disgusting and hotel reception staff were rude and unhelpful. It's a shame because the location of the hotel is great.
The reception was friendly and welcoming and some parts of the hotel are being refurbished. we had one of the newly refurbished rooms on the second floor and whilst the bedroom complete with en-suite was nicely furnished and clean, the room complete with a 4ft bed was just about big enough for two. The breakfast at the weekend was a little chaotic with many people arriving near the end at 0930 hours. The breakfast was ample (help yourself) and attending staff were courteous and coped very well.
For a hotel near the SECC and city centre offering free car park and breakfast for two, for ?50 you can't really complain too much. No doubt rates will rise once refurbishment is completed.

The location of the hotel is good for public transport (the aiport bus stops outside the door) and accessibility to the city centre and surrounding tourist attractions (museums, art gallery etc) although the immediate surroundings are very run down.
The hotel reception and lounge areas are spacious but plain, the dining room cramped due to part of it undergoing refurbishment and the upper corridors drab. The little things like dirty doors in reception and shabby carpets in lift and hallways give the impression of neglect.
Our room, 126, was at the end of the first floor corridor and overlooked the front of the hotel and the main road. The room was spacious and had obviously been recently refurbished, the bed linen and bathroom clean and the bed comfortable. Tea/coffee facilities provided.
The two windows are not double-glazed so the traffic and outside noise could be a problem - it sounded like the window was open all night. The walls of the rooms are paper-thin - can hear every sound from the room next door and the hallway. Anything above a whisper can be heard. The doors have to be almost slammed to ensure they are locked properly which is very noisy, especially at 2am!
Breakfast was very busy - some people having to wait for free tables, but the staff were pleasant and helpful.
As with any hotel booking you get what you pay for. I would not choose to stay here for longer than a night and certainly not if I was on holiday but as a place to stay for a night it was ideal.
For ?40 per night, for room and breakfast for 2 in a large city I felt we had excellent value for money.
