This hotel was not as bad as has beed suggested in other reviews. Indeed we were quite worried having read some reviews. Of course it is not the Ritz but it certainly was value for money at £49.95 per night including an adequate full breakfast. The only Real faults we encountered were the steep hill leading to the hotel and a lack of a lift. Everything in our room was basic but most importantly everything was clean. We have stayed in 5 star hotels before where the cleanliness of the room left a lot to be desired.

'The worst hotel in the city' (world?)

My partner booked the hotel online which by looking at the pictures, looked very nice. It came up payment confirmed. But on arrival, after travelling a while on the train, the appearance of the hotel was very different. We approached the desk only to be told that the payment, which my partner had made, wasn't paid, and that we would have to pay again. I paid and they took the money. So we actually paid twice. The receptionists customer service was very poor and her manners towards us were disgusting. She wasn't very helpful at all and didn't seem to care that were paying twice for a not very good standard of a room.. She gave us the keys and when we entered we were very astonished at the state of the room. We had a look around the room. The shower tiles were coming off and the shower wasn't running warm. Infact it was FREEZING. We didn't have many of the room facilities in our room which were quoted on the website. The only thing in there was the tv. I very strongly disagree at the fact that these are quoted on the website but aren't in the room. Later on I went to the reception area and asked her if we could have some more pillows, which she made a note on a piece of paper and said that she would get some for us. Nothing came back to us. So later on I asked a man working on the recption at the time, who was very helpful, if he would be able to get us the pillows I asked for. He had a good manner with us and I was very pleased with his standard of customer service. He came to our room with the pillows. The followning morning we had to go into a differnt room for our shower which was a bit of an inconvienience to us as we had to climb two floors of stairs and back down again to go back to our room. If I was approached in the street and asked about the hotel, I wouldn''t reccommend it to anyone. In fact I would tell them that the hotel is very unhygienic, very dirty, and untidy. If I came down that way again the answer to coming to this joke of a hotel would definately be a no and there is definately goin to be a complaint put in about this hotel. It shouldn't even exist at all, infact it we would have been better staying in a hostel.
