Situated between Glasgow and Edinburgh on Scotland’s main road network, South Lanarkshire is a rich mixture of urban and rural, stretching from the city suburbs south to the open moorland of the Leadhills.
This is an area steeped in history and many of the towns in the region have a range of excellent attractions allowing you to explore their past including the New Lanark UNESCO World Heritage site, Chaterhault country park, Strathclyde country park and Hamilton Park Racecourse. In less than an hour you can chose city shopping at its best or relax and take in a show.
Travel information
By Car (from Glasgow International Airport):
- Take the M8 east towards Glasgow city centre and Edinburgh.
- Exit the M8 when you see signs for the A725 and Bellshill.
- Leave the A725 at the 1st exit and turn right at the roundabout, then right again at the next roundabout.
- At the 3rd roundabout, continue straight ahead, and you will see the Hilton Strathclyde hotel on your right-hand side.
Directions from Edinburgh International Airport:
- Follow signs for the A8 to Glasgow, then signs to the M8.
- Exit the M8 at the junction for Coatbridge, Bellshill and Carlisle, and join the A725.
- Take the 1st exit off the A725, signposted Strathclyde Business Park.
- Take the 1st right at the next roundabout and then turn right at the 2nd roundabout.
- At the 3rd roundabout, take the 2nd exit.
- Turn right and you will see the Hilton Strathclyde hotel and car parking facilities.
- The 45 mile journey normally takes around 45 minutes from the airport to the hotel forecourt.
