I recently stayed at The Imperial for three days.It is centrally situated in Barnstaple town centre and the train and bus stations are just a short walk away.
The hotel is nicely decorated and my room was clean and satisfactory. The food was good with a varied choice although there could have been a better selection of fresh fruit at breakfast.
The big drawback of this hotel are the guests - nearly everyone was over 75!! No problem with old people but a few younger guests would have created a livlier atmosphere.
I wondered if the hotel employed a night nurse!!
Overall my stay was satisfactory although I did find that some of the reception staff were quite arrogant.
If you want a livlier hotel environment the Imperial is not for you

The Imperial Hotel which is in Barnstaple/Devon was sheer delight. It is one of the Brend Hotels and it is obvious they know how to please the public. The hotel itself was the epitomy of what one wants an English Hotel to be. Old world charm, lovely decor, big rooms, lounges, bar... The food was superb, the staff friendly and attentive. If you are in the Devon/Cornwall area I would suggest staying in one of their hotels. Worth every penny!
Thank you so much.
