Location

Most people know that… Edinburgh is a capital city beloved of tourists the world over, but it also has another side: a compact historical city full of nooks and crannies ready to be explored. The locals are very proud of their city and now news is spreading and even those from the west coast cannot help but pop over for the weekend.

Some people know that… You should hit town in August when the capital transforms with festivals and parties. It is THE festival of all festivals where you can see world class comedians and performances everywhere imaginable – including phone booths and taxi cabs. More & more celebrities, think its shopping heaven, with gems at Hamilton & Inches, handmade chocolates at Plaisir de Chocolat on the Royal Mile, cool interiors at Tangram at the fruitmarket gallery and not forgetting Cruise, Corniche and Xile for the latest outfit.

Every night is cocktail time watching the Edinburgh sunset in Harvey Nichols rooftop bar, followed by haute cuisine a stone’s throw away on George Street.

But not everyone knows that… Its where millions of people choose to celebrate New Years, Hogmanay – the best party in the world. Just ask anyone, they are bound to know someone who’s been. And this celebration all takes place by a volcano! To the east of our famous Edinburgh castle lies a large hill resembling a crouching lion – known by all as Arthur’s Seat, situated within Holyrood Park. Arthur's Seat is an extinct volcano - the largest of a number which gave this region its shape.

The area gives the impression of remote countryside well away from busy city life, it will easily convince tourist and Edinburgher alike that the city is a mirage far distant from this peaceful solitude.

Stayed at Le Monde with one of my girlfriends recently and had an amazing stay. We checked into LA which was stylish and full of LA character. Absolutely loved the huge bathroom, plasma TVs, CD player and the bed was by far the comfiest bed I have ever slept in. All the trendy shops are right on Le Mondes door step so it would be rude to not spend the day shopping. After a hard days shopping we returned to our suite to get ready for a girly night out. We had a few drinks in the suite from the mini bar before heading down to have dinner in Vienna. Dinner was delicious and the cocktails went down a treat. After dinner we went down to the club for a few more drinks and to check out the local talent. We were suitably impressed, this is clearly where all the beautiful people go. Le Monde has so much to offer and we are already planning a return visit. The staff were so friendly and helpful and they really made us feel welcome. Le Monde would be great for any occassion, however I think the LA suite is a must for a girls night out.

My partner and I stayed in the Le Mode Hotel January just gone and it was a great break mainly due to our hotel. The hotel was a gift stay to my partner and we stayed in a medium priced room (the atlantic). On arriving you are surprised to see how small the reception area is but the builting opens up from there. The staff were very helpful and we hadd no complaints there. They even delivered the next days weather to our room daily, for both Edinburgh and for Atlantic. Our room was not the biggest room ever for the money paid in comparison to other hotel rooms but was a quality room for those who appreciate the details and for its location it was perfect. Our room was to the rear so it was free from any noise from outside or from within the building. The bed was a very impressive and comfortable feature. The bathroom is beautifully tiled and the toilet is seperate to the shower and bath.To new couples dont be afraid of the see through glass its not that noticable. Our room was daily cleaned but the cleaning service never disturbed us in the morning and we very rarely seen them and never heard them. The breakfast is a lovely buffet display but finishes by 10.30.We ate lunch in the milan bar twice and it was lovely but on the night we had dinner there, we were a little disappointed.Dinner in the Paris restaurant was delicious but be aware that the last order is taken by 9.00 so if you want a late dinner meantion it at reception. The bars for service for drinks was very quick and enjoyabe atmosphere.Very trendy spot for us as we are aged 22 and 24. The hotel is located on the equvilaent to Grafton Street to those who know Dublin and its only a five minute walk from the main street. The castle and all local bars and beautiful restaurants are all moments away. Well worth the money spent and will most definitly be returning for a luxury break.
