It’s a hostel so you know the environment you will get on the weekends. It was clean, convenient, and you can’t beat the price for that area of the city.

Stayed at the hostel last weekend with friends and had a great time, everything is clean and new. The staff were really helpful when we needed tourist info etc. The bar looks really good but unfortunately could not have a drink as it was not finished but was told would be open next weekend. Maybe next time !

"Loved Smartcity Edinburgh!"

SmartCity Edinburgh was absolutely brilliant! I had spent a night at neighboring High Street Hostel, and though the people there were all incredibly friendly, the accomodation was sub-par. I didn't want to spend another night there, and so went looking for alternative accomodations. Luckily, I didn't have to look far. SmartCity was literally down the block, and for about 4 GBP more a night offered new, clean accomodations more akin to a hotel than a hostel--multi-bed rooms, but with en-suite toilets and showers, storage lockers, traditional keycard locks on doors (as opposed to no locks at all at HSH), a cafe and bar (now definitely open), free internet kiosks AND free wireless if you used your own computer... I really loved the place. On top of the great facilities, when I explained to desk staff I was sick and asked if they had any bottom bunk beds in quiet rooms, without many other travelers, they found one that was empty! I got lucky and, since the place wasn't booked out, managed to spend my entire stay recovering alone, in peace. There were some glitches. If you aren't careful, the showers can leak onto the carpeted room floors, but otherwise, it's clean, new, comfortable accomodation. I plan to return to Edinburgh in the spring, to see everything I missed when I was sick, and I will absolutely stay at SmartCity again.
