We booked this "hotel" via lastminute .com as a Secret
Hotel deal for 2 nights in an Executive Room a 4 Star Hotel . We travel alot in Scotland and this was not as it was advertised. A 4 star hotel it ain't , its a fairly average 2 star guest house of which there are dozens to choose from along the same road,Yes the welcome was freindly it usually is in Scotland. The executive room we where offered was one of two, the first being in the basement fronting the main road. the second on the top floor which we accepted without seeing. The decor is 70's flowers on the walls, pink tiles and marble effect formica in the en-suite without bath? The Kingsize bed was 2 singles pushed together with 2 seperate headboards, a nice touch. Sharing tea and coffee making facilities on the landing is a first for a 4 star hotel, a trend other hotels may pick up on soon.
Breakfast was ok thats about it. Maybe we should have gone somwhere else upon arrival , but you know what its like after a 5 hour car ride you just won't to get sorted . As a 2-3 star guest house ok, but thats it

Booked via lastminute.com. 2 nights as a Secret Hotel deal. We chose this "hotel?" when we saw there was free parking. There were three parking spaces (one of which seemed to be permanently occupied). We had to park on the street two blocks away and drag our luggage through the rain. The room with shower was ok and nice and clean. Bed was fine but the "room facilities" in the advert didn’t tell us that we had to use shared facilities on the landing to make our tea and coffee. The TV didn’t work and when we told the receptionist about it she said "Oh! It didn’t work yesterday either." It wasn’t fixed until just before we left. Breakfast was ok but didn’t like the rubbery scrambled eggs. The Ben Doran is convenient for getting to the sights in Edinburgh especially if you use the local bus service. If you are looking for a hotel room we do not recommend The Ben Doran.
