Stayed in the Hudson for two nights and while I am a fan of modern hotels the Hudson has some serious problems.
Firstly, the bar and nightclub are great. The bar serves some amazing cocktails and the staff there were great.
The problem is the hotel itself. Our room was very dark and because it is an old building the only window in our room was around 9ft from the ground making it hard to even open the blinds let alone the window. The room was very hot and it doesn't have aircon which is a disgrace in any modern hotel. What was strange was the weather was not that hot but the room was. All they had was a small fan that was noisy as hell. It actually kept us awake.
Also the shower was weird as it was a hand held nozzle that we couldn't put up to operate as a normal shower so we had hand held showers. One thing that was good was the water pressure. These issues made staying in the room uncomfortable.
On checking out the Australian on the front desk had a serious attitude problem. She had an issue as supposedly she got drafted in to work at the last moment but this should not have allowed her to take out her grievances on paying customers. She actually refused to let us store our bags as she said their storage area was full.
Maybe we got a bad room but while the location is good and the bar is great the hotel is not what you would expect from a 4 star.

We stayed at the Hudson Hotel for one night at the beginning of May in an Executive Room.
The room was nice, relatively spacious although very dark. But the bed was big and comfy. The hotel is bang in the centre of town at the West End so location is ideal.
In some ways it shouldn't describe itself as a hotel as it really is a bar / nightclub with rooms above it. There's no restaurant or residents bar just the busy main bar which was stylish but pretty soulless.
What really let the place down for us was the general indifference of all the staff. I wouldn't say they were rude, just not really interested. I wonder about places like this alot - by just spending a bit of time on customer service and other small things they'd be great but instead they focus on how the place looks on the surface and when you scratch that surface you find very little.
I wouldn't recommend this place to people unless you're looking for a night out in edinburgh and nothing much else.
