Grassmarket Hotel - Edinburgh, United Kingdom     

Couldn't possibly have picked a better location: the Grassmarket is right in the backyard of the Edinburgh Castle. Room was fine: very clean, comfortable, and plenty of storage. Front desk staff gave extra effort to help us find information about the places we wanted to visit. Pub downstairs is perfect for a nightcap. Some reviews have complained of noise; our room was on the first floor and we never heard a thing. So it's not a constant problem. TV was a little off, but we weren't there to watch television. Enjoyed our stay and would recommend this hotel to friends.

We stayed 2 nights at the Grassmarket hotel Thursday- Friday 16th-17th May 08. At the airport we caught the Express Bus ?5-oo each return to the city centre. Booked direct with hotel well in advance and asked for a high floor, were given a 4th Floor room. This is needed as it does get noisy from the pubs and late night revellers. As others have said the hotel position is great. The grassmarket area was at the start of a big refurbishment on our visit. All the footpaths in the area had been taken up and in the process of being relayed. The hotel DOES NOT include breakfast in with the price. But the pub to which they are joined does a really good one. Our room 402 was a corner room, 3 large double glazed sash casements, 6ft wide bed and enough room to play football in. Very clean and well decorated, as was the shower room, toilet. The staff were very helpful and polite. I would stay again.
