The hotel was great. Lovely rooms & very clean. Room Service was very reasonable, with three price structures. Pool lovely, gym very functional (only a bit too hot), bar and restaurant very nice and the food was excellent and large portions. Breakfast offered a good choice. There over the Rugby weekend so very busy. Lovely walk to town, about 10 mins, and £4-5 in a taxi back if you dont want to walk up hill. Only slight problem, not many scottish people worked there, but staff were very helpful and curteous.

We stayed at the Novotel for 2 nights last week. I was very impressed with the hotel & the rooms were clean but could of been cleaner for a 4 star hotel. There was a few marks on the walls & mould in the shower cubicle which wasn't a problem - just that it could easily have been cleaned away. The bed was very clean & very comfortable for us, which means it was hard. Our room had a terrible view to the back but I don't go to a hotel to look out the window anyway. We used the pool, sauna & jacuzzi & found it to be excellent although there is not a cubicle to get changed in. Again, not a problem to nip to the toilet if you are shy. We had breakfast & it was nice although ?15 per person is quite steep when you can nip out & get the same for ?5 each. The staff were friendly & we got checked in even when we arrived to drop our bags at 10am. I liked the shoe cleaner machine beside the lifts but I don't got to hotels much, so maybe this is usual. Overall, I am pleased we chose this hotel & the location was just a 15 minute walk onto Princes Street or 5 minutes down steps onto Grassmarket.

Novotel Edinburgh = great location!

I like the Novotels in Europe better than in Canada. Very spacious and clean rooms. Neat Ikea like furniture. Immaculate washrooms with funky sink/taps. Very quiet room. The best part: My view! of what? Edinburgh Castle!!! The hotel is only a 10 minute walk to the Castle which is the starting point of any Edinburgh adventures. Hotel's breakfast was buffett so hot food and delicious! Hotel also has a gym and a nice swimming pool ! Would highly recommend it to anyone - it was fantastic!

Fine location; fair 3* hotel

I visit Edinburgh a lot for work. On this occasion, all my preferred hotels were busy. The Novotel wasn't a bad alternative. It's very close to the railway station and to the Royal Mile (High Street). The road itself is unprepossessing, but seems safe enough. All the staff were very helpful, and the room was ready even though I checked in early. It's definitely a 3* experience and not a 4* one, but you get what you pay for. I'm always a keen gym user, so I was happy to learn that there was an arrangement whereby I could go to the Carlton hotel next door, and use their excellent gym, for a ?5 fee. (Hint: the back door of the Carlton is just down the street from the Novotel: you don't need to go around to the front entrance). Breakfast was a bit of a disappointment: the hotel was busy with tour parties, all wanting breakfast at once. You had to queue with a tray and fill it with the stuff you wanted, then look (almost in vain) for a place to sit. It wasn't a bad breakfast, just a little bit of an onslaught on the nerves, first thing in the morning.
