I stayed at the Thistle Edinburgh for one night whilst on business. My first choice of hotel, the Balmoral was fully booked so my secretary booked this one instead as it was just over the road. First impressions of the hotel are really bad. The hotel itself is situated above a shopping centre and the exterior looks like a 1960's office block, especially after going passed the grandeur of the Balmoral! I stayed in a room on the fifth floor which was spacious enough for me but I guess that it could become a little cramped if there were two of you in the room. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was up to date, although the pressure in the showers was the worst I've ever experienced in a hotel. You have to leave it running for around 20 minutes just to get hot water through! Gave up in the end and washed my hair in the sink. The rooms have the standard hotel decor, although rooms how have modern flat screen tv's. In summary, it was fine for one night. I don't think I'd stay there again if I was going back with my partner or on business, I think there are better value 4 star hotels in Edinburgh with a more modern feel, although I couldn't fault the location.
