5This Travelodge was recently acquired by the chain and opened to visitors two weeks prior to our visit. Although renovations seem to be ongoing, rooms are very well-appointed -- almost luxurious for a Travelodge location. There was ample closet space, the pleasant dark wood furniture was several steps above the typical Travelodge pasteboard units, and the bathroom was spacious and chic. In fact, if not for the Travelodge Sign outside the hotel, I could have been fooled into thinking that this was a relatively upscale hotel.
Staff was courteous and pleasant. Our incoming flight was delayed by one day, and I feared that I'd lose my second night as per typical Travelodge policy, but management honoured my original reservation given the circumstances.
The property itself is located in a very pleasant neighbourhood in Edinburgh, across from the Dean Gallery and the National Gallery of Modern Art, and is a short bus ride to Prince's Street via the 13 bus.
At ?39 pounds per nate (via the saver rate),this was a steal, and would have rated five stars but for the ATROCIOUS food in the bar/cafe. My s.o. went for the breakfast deal (I've learned, and stay far, far away from Travelodge cafes)...and got several raw sausages, pink rashers of bacon, and runny eggs as part of the 'deal'. During checkout, I heard one business traveller angrily berate staff about the quality of food, so I know that this wasn't an isolated incident. What a pity.
