4We've stayed in Edinburgh a couple times and have had some troubles finding a decent place for the money we have budgeted. Fredrick House was the best of several we encountered. It's in a great location (can't do better for the money), the rooms are pretty quiet and the breakfast is better than decent. Some things to be aware of: Breakfast is at a restaurant just across the street. It's not at all inconvenient to find or get to. The building is old, so don't expect state-of-the-art anything, though they DO have an elevator! The location is near a couple bars so if you have a room looking over the street, expect some noise around closing time. There is no "view" out of the hotel so if you find yourself overlooking an alleyway or a rooftop, don't fret, you're not mising anything. And, as always, Scottish mattresses are NOT what folks from the U.S. are used to. You'll find it everywhere in Scotland. Don't be surprised.
