Dunstane House Hotel details:
This impressive Victorian mansion is 500 metres from Haymarket Railway Station and a 15-minute walk from Edinburgh city centre. It has individually designed rooms, free Wi-Fi and free parking.
The 4-star Dunstane House Hotel was originally built in 1852 and still has many original features, including real open fireplaces.
The award-winning Skerries Restaurant specialises in fresh seafood from the waters around Orkney and Shetland. Prime Orkney beef, lamb, game and vegetarian meals are also available.
The Stanes Whisky Bar serves lighter meals and has over 90 malt whiskies.
The individually decorated bedrooms have luxury cotton sheets, Molton Brown toiletries, LCD flat-screen TVs and tea/coffee trays with shortbread from Orkney.
Dunstane House was built in 1852 to the design of the famous architect William Playfair, who also designed the nearby Donaldsons' College for the Deaf. Originally Dunstane Villa, as it was first named, was the private residence of the Ross family, famous for their Edinburgh Castle Rock and other confectionery produced in Scotland. The bandstand in Princes Street gardens takes its name from the family. Our Edinburgh Hotel retains its Victorian architectural grandeur which, combined with an intimate country house atmosphere, ensures our guests leave with lasting memories of Dunstane. Crow step gables, archers' windows and ornate open fireplaces give Dunstane the atmosphere of a small castle.
Location
Although the hotel is in West Coates, a mainly residential area, you are still only minutes from Edinburgh's Princes Street and city centre attractions. The city centre and Edinburgh International Conference Centre are 10 minutes’ walk away. Edinburgh Castle is 20 minutes’ walk.
Its location is also very handy for Murrayfield Stadium, home to Scotland's rugby team, as well as regular big name stadium concerts. Edinburgh Airport is a straight and easy 15 minute drive from the hotel, while the city's Haymarket train station is also near.
For exploring further afield within Edinburgh, there is a regular bus and airport bus service from right in front of the hotel.
